What is SMS spunbond nonwoven fabric
In addition to single-layer and double-layer spunbond Nonwoven fabrics, three-layer spunbond nonwoven fabrics also occupy a certain market share due to their unique properties. Currently, the largest market demand for three-layer spunbond nonwoven fabrics is for SMS nonwoven fabric, a composite nonwoven fabric made by combining one layer of spunbond nonwoven fabric, one layer of meltblown fabric, and another one layer of spunbond nonwoven fabric. SMS nonwoven fabric offers advantages such as high strength and excellent filtration performance. It is widely used in medical and healthcare protective products such as medical masks, surgical gowns, surgical caps, protective clothing, and medical drapes.
The production of SMS nonwoven fabric requires an SMS spunbond production line, which includes two sets of spunbond spinning equipment and one set of meltblown equipment.
The production process for spunbond nonwoven fabric involves: PP raw material transportation → screw extrusion → melt filtration → melt metering → spinning → cooling and stretching → fiber spreading and web forming → thermal bonding and shaping → winding.
The production process for meltblown nonwoven fabric involves: PP raw material transportation → screw extrusion → melt filtration → melt metering → spinning → hot air stretching → web forming → winding.
From the production process, we can see that although the product characteristics of spunbond and meltblown are entirely different, their production processes are quite similar. The emergence of SMS spunbond and meltblown composite nonwoven fabric fully leverages the advantages of both technologies. The spunbond layer increases the product's tensile strength in both directions, while the ultrafine fibers of the meltblown fabric significantly improve the product's uniformity and water resistance. This composite nonwoven fabric compensates for the unevenness of spunbond fabric and the low strength of meltblown fabric, making SMS nonwoven fabric more widely applicable.
In the medical field, SMS nonwoven fabric is used for making surgical gowns, surgical drapes, and other products due to its excellent ability to block bacteria and viruses. The recommended width for production is HG-3200.
In the hygiene sector, SMS nonwoven fabric is used in the production of disposable hygiene products such as baby and adult diapers. Its high breathability and moisture absorption keep the skin dry and comfortable, with the recommended width for production being HG-2400.
SMS composite nonwoven fabric has broad prospects in various application fields, but its development still requires some time. Due to the high cost of SMS production lines, this project is suitable for customers who have the budget and a certain market demand to invest and develop it.
